Hallmarks:

Stamped PLAT & 18ct gold.

In cases where there is no stamp or Hallmarks present, Metal purity is checked to be within the verified karat value ranges of a KEE GOLD tester before sale.

Unlike pure 24 carat gold, lesser carats are an alloy of gold with a mixture of various metals added such as copper or silver. Therefore the consistency and concentration of gold content will fluctuate throughout an item so any present hallmarks or stamps should only be viewed as an approximation or guide.

Antique jewellery (ie. Georgian/ Victorian) was often not hallmarked, as compulsory hallmarking of all precious metals did not begin until the 1920’s, only becoming law in 1973. Consequently assay offices carry a pre-1950’s exemption from hallmarking. This means that any piece pre-dating the 1950’s that is not hallmarked is exempt from the normal requirements of the assay office.
